Nita &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Before we talk about anything else: Our wonderful Nita is deaf – if deafness is a deal-breaker for you, then scroll on, we have other dogs in the animal shelters of our partners for you. But if you know that deafness can be no hindrance at all in everyday life, if you are ready to grow with our chocolate drops, if you can communicate through body language, and if you love the challenge of learning Nita’s sign language, then please continue here: Nita is a Podenca with a shoulder height of about 50 cm and is 6 years old. She is out of her wild days and is still in the perfect age for adventures, long walks, and the serious study of sofa blankets. Visually, she stands out because she has a very rare chocolate brown coat with white markings for her breed. Podencos are known for their large ears, their alert gaze, and a fine mix of sensitivity and clever independence. Many of them are athletic, learn quickly, and enjoy both active times and quiet moments (especially indoors, where they often behave like cats when they feel safe and have clear routines). Nita fits this picture perfectly, showing herself to be cheerful, people-oriented, and pleasantly uncomplicated. She approaches new people openly, seeks proximity, and meets her environment friendly and interested. In the company of other dogs, Nita is compatible, and she has already gained experience with children, looking forward to spending time with little people. Although Nita came from a hunter who kept her on a short chain in a field due to her disability, she can now even be enthusiastic about toys. When Nita came into the care of the animal welfare workers at the end of 2025, she lived for a time in a foster family. There, she was neutered, medically checked, and vaccinated. But she also learned how to move around in the house and showed herself to be highly gifted, very quickly understanding hand signals and orienting herself during walks. Currently, Nita lives in the animal shelter ArcoNatura in Linares, where she moves around the large pack despite her disability. Nita is therefore well prepared to move into her own home and be adopted by a family. All that is missing is the most important part: people who want a sensitive, clever Podenca, who are kind, communicate patiently, and give Nita both movement and relaxation. A confident-only dog is welcome but not a must. Nita is waiting in Linares for her ticket to happiness with people who not only rescue but also accept and adopt.

About Nita &#8211

What life with Nita &#8211 looks like

Nita &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nita &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nita &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nita &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nita &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nita &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nita &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nita &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
