Nova

Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Nova thought she had found her forever home. However, due to changes in her family's circumstances, the sweet furball is now looking for a new, loving home from our animal pension in Viersen. Nova (approx. 4 years and approx. 75 cm) is reminiscent of a herding guard dog mix both in appearance and character: loyal, sensitive and very people-oriented once she has gained trust. She is initially reserved with strangers, but opens up with patience and empathy and then shows her affectionate and loving side. Nova is naturally rather quiet, but also enjoys being active and moving around. At the same time, she still needs to learn to switch off and relax. She generally gets along well with cats, but decides on dogs based on sympathy. If the chemistry is right, she is happy to play a game. She is looking forward to continuing to work on the dog 1x1 and building a clear structure in everyday life. Driving and being alone work really well. For Nova, we wish for a quiet rural home with a garden with dog-experienced people who can offer her a structured daily routine. Herding dogs are often very independent and need a confident leadership. A dog-free home would be ideal, so Nova can relax. She would be very happy with a confident first dog to orientate herself around and play with. Even though Nova is a bit cautious at first and takes her time getting to know her people, there is a loving, heartfelt soul in her whose greatest wish is to be seen and accepted as she is. Has the sweet furball piqued your interest? Then please contact us using the contact details provided. Nova is already very excited to meet you!

About Nova

What life with Nova looks like

Nova is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Tierheim Ettlingen in Ettlingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nova, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nova?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ettlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nova on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nova if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ettlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nova already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nova isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ettlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nova and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
