Adopt Nuzzle

Bichon Frisé · Female · Adult · 7 years

Nuzzle is a gentle 7-year-old Bichon Frise who came from a breeder and returned to rescue after an unsuccessful adoption. Initially extremely nervous and fearful, she has made remarkable progress with patience and consistency. She now enjoys gentle attention and grooming from carers. Nuzzle thrives with canine companionship and requires a resident dog for emotional support. She shares her kennel beautifully with other dogs and loves snuggling with her best friend. However, she was fearful of men and reacted defensively twice in her previous home. She needs very understanding, experienced adopters who can provide a calm environment with only one other dog, as she can be protective of her bonds.

Nuzzle is a truly gentle, special little girl who has already come so far on her journey. She originally came to us from a breeder and, after a short adoption, sadly found her way back to the rescue as it was not the right fit for her. While in the home, she did make progress, but she was fearful of the man in the household and reacted out of fear on two occasions, showing that she needs very understanding, experienced adopters. When Nuzzle first arrived with us, she was an extremely nervous and flighty soul, spending most of her time hiding at the back of her kennel, too scared to join in or even accept touch. The world felt overwhelming, being in the yard, meeting people, or simply being handled was terrifying for her, and she lived in a constant state of panic and flight. Since returning to the rescue, the transformation in Nuzzle has been truly heart‑warming. With patience, kindness, routine, and consistency, she has slowly begun to blossom. She now approaches her carers for gentle fusses and, when she feels safe, will even ask for more. She enjoys being groomed, moves confidently to and from the yard as part of her daily routine, and is learning to walk on a harness, making steady, positive progress every day. She shares her kennel with other dogs of a similar size and gets along beautifully with them, sharing food, curling up together in bed, and finding huge reassurance in their company. She especially enjoys sharing her big donut bed with her best friend Denise, often snuggled up together under the heat lamp, enjoying their dental sticks and quiet time, which perfectly sums up the calm, cosy life Nuzzle loves. Nuzzle thrives when she has another kind, confident dog by her side and will need a resident dog, her size or larger, in her new home for emotional support and confidence-building. However, she will need a home with only one resident dog as she can be quite protective, and builds bonds with her furry-friends. She is not a dog for busy or noisy environments and will need a calm, quiet, adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand ex-breeding dogs and are prepared to be patient, gentle, and consistent, allowing her to progress at her own pace. Despite her fears, Nuzzle is a sweetheart who adores comfort, routine, and affection. She enjoys cosy beds, soft fuss, tasty treats, and the safety of familiar people and dogs. She has previously shown that she can be fully housetrained in a home environment, although she may need gentle reminders when settling into a new one. From a medical point of view, Nuzzle has a Grade 1–2 heart murmur which does not currently require treatment but should be monitored by a vet. She has had two teeth removed when she was spayed, and she also has a fatty lump on her side which currently requires no action. Nuzzle has already achieved so much and continues to surprise everyone with her courage and gentle nature. She has incredible potential and, in the right home with the right support, she will continue to grow in confidence and trust. She is a quiet, affectionate companion who simply wants a safe, loving place where she can feel secure and cherished. With the right family who will celebrate every small step and understand her past, Nuzzle will flourish beautifully and become a deeply rewarding companion. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
