Adopt Ocean

Bernese Mountain Dog · Female · Adult · 4 years

Ocean is a very worried lady who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a new start. She is extremely overwhelmed at the moment and needs patient, understanding adopters with ex-breeding experience, who can give her the time and space she needs to feel safe. She is currently too nervous to take treats and is worried by handling, but she has recently shown the most touching early signs of beginning to trust, gently pawing for more fuss when stroking stopped. This is a huge milestone for a girl who has given so little back until now, and a lovely indication that she is starting to understand she is safe. Ocean gets on wonderfully with her kennel friends and relies heavily on their company for comfort, so she will need a calm and confident resident dog in her new home to help guide her and provide reassurance as she settles in and finds her paws. She would need this dog to be around her size or larger. As Ocean has never lived in a home before, she will need support with house training, although we are told she is kennel clean, so she may pick this up quickly. She is able to walk on a lead but will need extra security and a patient approach, as she can be quite scatty in unfamiliar areas and is still very nervous of strangers. She may redirect if someone unfamiliar is holding her lead, so gentle, ongoing confidence building around walking will be important, always at her pace. We are looking for a calm, adult-only home for Ocean so that she can relax and adjust to her new surroundings without too much noise or activity. A quiet environment and a consistent routine will be essential in helping her feel secure. As she is larger, and can be a flight risk if she is spooked, her new secure garden will need to be at least 6ft+ to ensure her safety. Ocean is a very sweet girl who is simply overwhelmed right now, but she is already beginning to show tiny glimpses of progress that suggest trust is starting to grow. With time, patience, and gentle encouragement,
