Odin

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

📍 Current Location: Slovenia Odin is a neutered mixed-breed male dog born in March 2017, who was abandoned at the animal shelter in Svilos at the beginning of 2025. He now lives in Slovenia and is waiting for a family where he can stay forever. Odin is a very friendly, approachable, and people-oriented male dog. He loves spending time with his people, enjoys being petted, and enjoys long walks. Odin walks very well on a leash. He takes treats enthusiastically, which makes him very responsive. He gets along very well with other dogs, but his behavior towards cats and other animals is unfortunately not known. Odin is a very fit companion, though he occasionally shows slight changes in his gait due to an old injury (the movement sometimes appears uncoordinated). The shoulder height of the male dog is 57 cm and he weighs approximately 25 kg.

Leckerlis nimmt er motiviert an, was ihn gut ansprechbar macht.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
