Adopt Olaf

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 10 years

I am Olaf and if you have a kitchen cabinet or drawer, I can open it. I am incredibly smart and strong, knowing where you keep all your food and how to get to it. I might find child locks a bit childish, but I would understand them. I have had a bit of a bladder issue, so I need a special type of food to keep the problems away. I am temporarily living with a few other cats in the kennel run, and I get along well with them, but I don't necessarily need to live with another cat. Kids often seem too noisy to me, and a cat door would be great. Are you my match?

Ben jij mijn match?

About Olaf

What life with Olaf looks like

Olaf is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olaf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olaf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olaf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olaf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Olaf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olaf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olaf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
