Scooter

Male · Adult · 7 years

Hello everyone, my name is Scooter and I'm looking for you! This sweet guy comes from Italy, how I ended up in the Netherlands is a mystery because I was found on the street and my owner never came to pick me up again. That's not a nice feeling, I can tell you that, being unwanted again. Fortunately, I was nicely taken in by DOA and I am getting used to it already. My regular caregivers are my best friends, I would love to cuddle and walk with them. They think I must be used to being outside often because I often choose my outdoor enclosure and on the play field I make nice little holes in the sand. Digging is actually something I'm really good at, so a nice and neatly trimmed lawn isn't entirely safe with me. They always end up with a dent because when they come in the morning to put the dogs on the field, I'm always waiting for them with my teddy in my mouth. Very cute! I'm always allowed to go on the field first because I'm super clean! I'm a bit of a one-dog person, I need some time to get to know you, but once I do, you're completely my friend!

About Scooter

What life with Scooter looks like

Scooter is a adult dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scooter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scooter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scooter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scooter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scooter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scooter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scooter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
