Olivia AVAILABLE

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Olivia is a beautiful 4-year-old Crossbreed who has already overcome more than any dog should ever have to endure. Found wandering the streets of Romania with severe neck injuries believed to have been caused by being tied too tightly with a metal prong-style collar, she was taken to a kill shelter before being rescued by partners of Islay Dog Rescue and brought into our care. Now four years old, Olivia has made a remarkable recovery and is a truly special girl. Despite the trauma she has experienced, she remains incredibly loving, trusting and devoted to people. Her gentle nature shines through in everything she does, and she is always happy to roll over for tummy rubs and affection from her favourite humans. Olivia can live with other dogs and cats following careful introductions. While not essential, a confident resident dog may help her continue to build her confidence and settle more quickly into home life. She enjoys the company of both dogs and cats, but above all else, Olivia simply loves being around people. She walks beautifully on the lead and, although she can still be a little hesitant when leaving the kennels, she is not concerned by passing traffic or nearby livestock. Her confidence continues to grow each day, and it has been wonderful to watch her begin to embrace new experiences. Having most likely never lived in a home environment before, Olivia is unlikely to be house-trained and may need time to adjust to everyday household sights and sounds such as televisions, washing machines and other domestic activity. Her new family will need to be patient, understanding and prepared to allow her to settle at her own pace while continuing her education through positive reinforcement training. Olivia is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites, assessed, and neutered. She has a APH certificate.

About Olivia AVAILABLE

What life with Olivia AVAILABLE looks like

Olivia AVAILABLE is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Islay Dog Rescue in Cumnock (Ayrshire).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olivia AVAILABLE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olivia AVAILABLE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Islay Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olivia AVAILABLE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olivia AVAILABLE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Islay Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Olivia AVAILABLE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olivia AVAILABLE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Islay Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olivia AVAILABLE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
