Mia AVAILABLE

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 7 months

Mia is a gorgeous seven-month-old crossbreed puppy who was found abandoned in Romania alongside her siblings. They were taken to a local shelter before Islay Dog Rescue stepped in to bring her to Scotland, where she is now searching for her forever home. Mia currently weighs 8.6kg and, as we do not expect her to grow much more, we believe she will remain a small dog. Mia has quickly become a favourite among the volunteers and staff at the rescue. Unlike many puppies of her age, she has a calm, gentle nature. She can be a little wary of new people at first, but given a little space and patience, she will soon approach, especially if tempted with a few tasty treats such as chicken or ham. Once Mia feels comfortable, her affectionate side begins to shine. She enjoys being stroked and is more than happy to snuggle up beside you, often rolling over for a belly rub from someone she trusts. As Mia has never lived in a home environment, she will need time to adjust to everyday household life. Normal sights and sounds such as televisions, vacuum cleaners and general household activity may initially be unfamiliar or a little overwhelming. This is not uncommon for Romanian street dogs, and given Mia's young age and gentle temperament, we believe she will gain confidence with patient guidance, understanding and positive experiences. Mia gets along well with other dogs and could happily live with a suitably matched resident dog following careful introductions. She has also met the rescue cat and neighbouring chickens and showed little interest in either. For this reason, we believe she could live with cats or other small household pets, provided introductions are carried out slowly and under supervision. Mia's lead training is progressing well and she enjoys her walks, taking great interest in exploring the world around her. She is curious about the sights, sounds and smells she encounters and is beginning to build confidence in new environments.

About Mia AVAILABLE

What life with Mia AVAILABLE looks like

Mia AVAILABLE is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Islay Dog Rescue in Cumnock (Ayrshire).

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia AVAILABLE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia AVAILABLE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Islay Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia AVAILABLE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia AVAILABLE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Islay Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mia AVAILABLE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia AVAILABLE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Islay Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia AVAILABLE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
