Olivia

Belgian Malinois · Female · Senior · 8 years

Olivia – a special Malinois female dog is seeking very experienced people. Olivia has recently moved to a new engaged foster home in Germany. There, she is being worked with intensively to give her more security and orientation in everyday life. Olivia is a Malinois female dog with many breed-specific traits: intelligent, attentive, sensitive, and very responsive. At the same time, she clearly shows that she struggles with stress, frustration, and insecurity. In everyday life, it becomes increasingly clear that Olivia quickly enters a high state of excitement. New situations, unfamiliar stimuli, or frustration can lead to impulsive reactions and forward behavior. Olivia seems to experience many situations as overwhelming and has developed strategies that provide her with temporary control and security. Her foster home is currently working with a dog trainer on frustration tolerance, impulse control, orientation towards people, and clear stop signals. First small progress is visible: Olivia is beginning to learn to orient herself towards her person and to accept leadership. Olivia currently lives with two other dogs, which do not upset her. Clear rules and careful management are essential for peaceful coexistence. In the pack, she runs only with a muzzle, which she is accustomed to and does not pose a problem. Additionally, Olivia is partially blind and may lose more of her vision over time. For her, reliable people who can give her orientation and security are increasingly important. We are exclusively looking for very dog-experienced people, ideally with experience with Malinois or comparable working breeds. Children are not currently seen in her future home. An environment with low stimulation outside of the city would be ideal. Her trainer's assessment is clear: Olivia will likely never be a dog who simply walks alongside without guidance. She will also need people in the long term who can evaluate situations for her and give her the leadership she cannot provide herself. This may sound daunting at first. But Olivia is more than just a work project. She is a clever female dog who, despite all the challenges, deserves a chance. We are not looking for people who are seeking a uncomplicated family dog. Rather, we are looking for people who understand that some dogs need more support than others – and who are willing to walk this path with Olivia. Here is Olivia's video Video 2 If you are aware of what adopting a shelter dog entails and you have fallen in love with the need, please contact the responsible mediator at SALVA Hundehilfe.

About Olivia

What life with Olivia looks like

Olivia is a senior belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olivia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olivia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olivia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olivia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Olivia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olivia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olivia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
