In our puppy Ollie, who is just four months old, juvenile cataracts were diagnosed. This form of cataract is genetically determined and begins at an age of eight weeks. Juvenile cataracts often develop quickly and can lead to complete blindness within a few months. Unfortunately, there is no medicinal treatment for Ollie. The only way to restore Ollie’s vision is an operation on both eyes (similar to humans), where the cloudy lens is replaced by an artificial one. We are currently looking for ways to have Ollie operated on in Portugal. Bei unserem Hundekind Ollie, der gerade mal vier Monate alt ist, wurde ein juveniler Katarakt festgestellt. Diese Form des Kataraktes ist genetisch bedingt und fängt bereits in einem Alter von acht Wochen an. Der juvenile Katarakt entwickelt sich oft schnell und kann binnen weniger Monate zu einem voll ausgeprägten Grauen Star führen. Eine medikamentöse Heilung gibt es leider nicht für Ollie. Die einzige Möglichkeit, die Sehfähigkeit bei Ollie wiederherzustellen, ist eine Operation an beiden Augen (ähnlich wie beim Menschen), bei der die getrübte Linse durch eine Kunstlinse ersetzt wird.
