Oporto punto

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

January 28, 2025, The volunteers tell us about Oporto: Oporto appeared abandoned at a transfer point along with his siblings, as if they were objects. He arrived with a lot of fear towards humans, a bit on the defensive, trying to protect his siblings. After much time, patience, and treats, he began to gradually approach us, asking for pets, and allowing himself to be handled. Having earned his trust and knowing we had no intention of harming him, Oporto is comfortable with the harness and leash and walks like any other dog when the animal shelter is more calm and empty. Now that he is more confident, we are able to get to know his true personality, and he is a delight. He is 3 and a half years old but acts like a big, mischievous, and curious puppy. He gets along very well with other dogs, now living with a more confident little sister, which has helped him to reinforce his own confidence in himself and in people. We are very happy with Oporto's rapid progress and that he is in a kennel enclosure, as the time we can dedicate to him is limited. Imagine how quickly he would progress in a home. We consider it very, very important that Oporto be adopted into a home where there is already another dog so that he can use it as a reference and feel much more comfortable. If you want to help Oporto regain faith in humanity and give him lots of love forever, write to us! As for the other four dogs named Ponto, they are called this because precisely at a transfer point they were abandoned, like trash or old junk. They made a hole in the fence enclosure, put the four inside, and sealed it with a plate so they couldn't escape. We do not know where they came from or what conditions they lived in. They are healthy and well-fed, showing no signs of physical abuse, but they lack socialization. Since they were in a municipality that has contracted our services for pickup, we have taken them in at our animal shelter. They are quite scared, but in the few days they've been with us, they have started to approach for pets. The only one more fearful is Aveiro, who hides in his bedroom. They are vaccinated, neutered, and their Leishmania analysis is negative, according to general analyses; there is no suspicion of Ehrlichia.

About Oporto punto

What life with Oporto punto looks like

Oporto punto is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ALBA Protectora Madrid in Madrid.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oporto punto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oporto punto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ALBA Protectora Madrid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oporto punto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oporto punto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ALBA Protectora Madrid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oporto punto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oporto punto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ALBA Protectora Madrid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oporto punto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
