Oreo

Mixed Breed · Male

The Carpen shelter kennel is located in the middle of fields on the edge of a small village. Typically, in a Romanian village, many dogs roam freely and despite sterilization campaigns, homeless animals' puppies keep appearing continuously. The villagers are familiar with the person maintaining the shelter, Carmen, and often ask her for help with the animals they find. Thus, the siblings Doris, Marie, and Oreo have also ended up in the shelter kennel. One of Carmen's acquaintances found the puppies by the side of a large road near the village and immediately realized that the small puppies would not survive long in such a place. Therefore, she took the puppies with her and brought them to safety at Carpen shelter kennel. Oreo is really a sympathetic personality. Although he has grown up in the shelter kennel, he has retained his love for people and curious nature. Therefore, he greets strangers happily, even though meeting new people clearly slightly worries him. The presence of people clearly interests him and Oreo is always moving around near visitors. He wags his tail and licks fingers, but initially avoids pats. Once given some time to wonder about the strange situation, Oreo quickly becomes more comfortable and eventually even short pats are pleasant for him. He lives comfortably with his sisters and a male outside the litter in the shelter kennel and would probably get along well in many different dog groups.

Oreo on todella sympaattinen persoona.

About Oreo

What life with Oreo looks like

Oreo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oreo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oreo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oreo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oreo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oreo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oreo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oreo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
