Orfeas

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

When we meet a dog like Orpheus, we feel awe, respect, and a deep tenderness. His presence carries a kind of mountain-bred resilience, a creature shaped by a hard life, by work in the fields, yet one who never lost his genuine kindness or the grace of his spirit. Orpheus is a remarkable dog. Strong, tall, with a hint of grey on his chin that gives him an air of quiet wisdom. His coat is thick, with brown and black streaks, like a tiger who may have lost some of his shine through life’s hardships, but never his proud posture. He came to the shelter from the municipal kennel of Krestena, and from the very first day, he seemed to understand everything. Calm, composed, yet quietly longing for companionship, he sat and looked into our eyes, waiting for us to put on his collar and take him out for a walk. On a walk, it is just him and his person. He doesn’t pull, doesn’t wander, doesn’t insist. He walks steadily and with confidence, even when he doesn’t know exactly where you are going. He stops and waits beside his person without impatience. He receives affection like cool water after a long, hot day in the sun. Orpheus adjusts his energy to that of the person beside him. Gentle, yet dignified. An adult dog who can adapt to many different environments, because he is calm and patient. It would mean so much to us to see him find someone who will help him shine again on the outside, because his soul has never lost its light.

About Orfeas

What life with Orfeas looks like

Orfeas is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Save a Greek Stray in Metsovo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orfeas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orfeas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Save a Greek Stray handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orfeas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orfeas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Save a Greek Stray will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orfeas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orfeas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Save a Greek Stray early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orfeas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
