Orion

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Orion is looking for a new home. Like all the dogs on this page, he shares that wish—but what sets Orion apart from the other four-legged friends in our partners’ care is that he’d actually already found his dream home. Our adorable cream-colored sweetheart was born on December 12, 2025, in a small village in Andalusia. His mother is a street dog who had been cared for by local residents for a long time. Many attempts to catch her failed, but just a few days after Orion and his five siblings were born, it finally succeeded: the entire family was safely taken into custody. Mama Isabelita and her just-a-few-days-old puppies moved straight into the hands of Dolmen Animal shelter’s primary caregivers. From the very beginning, the babies there learned how to interact with people and got acquainted with life inside a house. They’ve never had any negative experiences. In April 2026, Orion had his travel passport in his paw and climbed into the transport van bound for Germany, where his new family was already eagerly waiting for him. Everything started off perfectly—but then our sweet young pup began shedding his puppy coat, and his human companion started reacting with severe allergies. Medically, every possible effort was made to prevent the inevitable, but now it’s clear that Orion will have to leave his current home. His family is devastated, yet they’re still determined to do everything they can to give their beloved boy a fresh start. Orion is a fun mix—his father is unknown, but his mother passed on to him the entire Spanish gene pool. Isabelita’s genes combine Podenco, Bodeguero, Mastin Espanol, Pointer, perhaps even Vorsteher and/or Breton breeds—all these hunting, livestock-guarding, running marvels, terriers—and you’ll find traces of them all in her puppies. Orion is now a real teenager—beautifully built and incredibly intelligent. He’s already completed the first few hours of puppy school with his family; he’s quite reliably house-trained, knows a few basic commands, and is exploring his surroundings. When he hears loud noises, he’s still a bit skeptical and reacts somewhat uncertainly to passing cars and motorcycles—but overall, he’s a brave little world conqueror and explorer. Orion can already spend several hours alone (though of course, this should be gradually re-established in his new home), and generally comes across as a rather calm character. Yet he also loves playing and romping around—and let’s not even mention how much he adores cuddling! Our floppy-eared boy is also a big fan of lazy moments in his basket, during which he probably tests out the theories of great philosophers. Orion is looking for a family that wants to continue accompanying him on his journey, one that will pick up exactly where his adoptive parents left off. He gets along fine with children, happily follows the lead of an already established, confident dog, and while he hasn’t yet had any experience with cats, they mostly leave him completely indifferent during walks—a house cat shouldn’t be an obstacle either. We hope that Orion will soon win over his new family—and then, hopefully, get to share a long, healthy, and joyful dog life with them.

About Orion

What life with Orion looks like

Orion is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
