Orion

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

Orion had a terrible start in life. On November 16, 2025, he was rescued from a terrible perrera and brought to our animal shelter - a place where his life was in great danger. We saved him and gave him a chance at a new life. Today, Orion is waiting for someone to recognize the great dog he is. At just two years old, Orion is still a young dog and full of energy. He is strong, playful and loves spending time with his humans. He particularly enjoys walks outside the shelter and playing games together. In the shelter, he gets along well with other dogs and lives there without problems. Orion is a livestock guardian dog and brings some very special qualities with him. Livestock guardian dogs were originally bred to independently guard and protect herds. They are independent, attentive and intelligent dogs that don't wait for every step to be given to them. Instead, they carefully observe their surroundings and like to make their own decisions. For Orion, this means that he needs people who understand and appreciate these qualities. A clear, calm and confident leadership is more important to him than strict or harsh education. At the same time, Orion wants to learn a lot due to his young age and needs people who are willing to patiently guide him and give him security. With his strength and size of about 72 cm, you should know what you're getting into. Orion is not a small companion, but an impressive young male who needs space, movement and a task. A home with enough space and people who enjoy keeping a large dog both physically and mentally would be ideal for him.

About Orion

What life with Orion looks like

Orion is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
