Adopt Oscar

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Oscar is still looking for his family; he has been in the animal shelter for more than 950 days... Is it really possible that this beautiful, lovely dog has to spend his old age in the animal shelter? This is our mission, so if you can't adopt, would you please share? Oscar is an incredible dog: smart, full of energy, and with a huge heart. He loves running, playing, exploring... but especially loving and feeling loved. Every day he waits. He waits for someone to see him, for someone to realize how special he is, for someone to finally give him the home he so deserves. He is ideal for an active person or family who love the outdoors and are looking for a loyal, cheerful, and lively companion. We are looking for owners who include him everywhere, who make time every day for a nice walk, because even though Oscar will turn 9 years old in October, he is not a dog you put on the sofa and then do nothing with. A garden would be a plus for Oscar, so he can run off-leash and stretch his legs. A dog friend is okay, but preferably one from his weight class. But the reality is that Oscar is still waiting... and still needs a family. It hurts to think that, if no one comes for him, he will have to go back to the animal shelter and spend his days there... without ever knowing what a real home is. And that makes us very sad, because we know how much love he has to give. Oscar is not just any dog. He is a chance to change a life... and to enrich yours forever. Birthday: October 1, 2017 Size: Medium Gender: male dog Character: Active, affectionate, cheerful, intelligent, social, playful Negative tested for southern parasites Interested? Send a WhatsApp to 034 or fill out the intake at www.hope4pets.

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hope4Pets in Belgium.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope4Pets handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope4Pets will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope4Pets early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
