Otis

Male · Adult · 8 years

Otis was already a Dogs Trust dog having been rehomed from us once previously, but sadly a change in family circumstances and he has been returned to our care. He's an older boy now, eight years old, and he has some joint issues. Thankfully he's in a wonderful foster home with a family that are highly committed to helping him build his strength and continue loving life. His foster carers have said that Otis is simply a joy to have around and he has been impeccably behaved. He enjoys a couple of short walks a day and he could make wonderful companion for someone who also has limited mobility. Otis happily lies at your side whilst you work and is no bother at all. He has lovely long fur and loves being groomed as part of his bedtime routine, often falling asleep mid-brush! Otis isn't a fan of other dogs and can be vigilant on his walks if he thinks there may be one around, so quieter walking times would be ideal for him. He does have a nice Greyhound friend he walks with, but they have been carefully introduced. Otis is allowed on the furniture in his foster home and has a few beds dotted about, allowing him the choice to settle where he's comfortable, though he generally chooses to be near people. He loves to sunbathe in the garden and it would be nice for him to have some open space since his walks are somewhat restricted. Otis can live with children of high school age but not other pets. He is currently in foster where he is perfectly house trained and well behaved. Otis has a lot of joint pain and is managed with pain relief but he will need this for the rest of his life.

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
