Otis

Mixed Breed · Male

Otis was found on Jarmočná street in Košice. It probably comes from very unsuitable conditions - from a settlement. The beginning of its life was probably not easy, but despite that, it has a chance for a completely different future than it had so far. Otis is a typical puppy - active, playful and curious. Everything around it interests it, it likes to discover new things and has a desire to get to know the world. It is full of energy and natural joy of life, which is completely typical for puppies at this age. It has a longer body - "salamka", so it is important to ensure appropriate movement and avoid overloading the spine, especially during growth. Like any young puppy, it needs a regular routine, enough age-appropriate exercise, but most importantly, patient and loving guidance. Training, socialization and time spent on common activities will be crucial for its further development. It has not yet mastered hygiene habits, but with consistent and sensitive approach, it will gradually learn them. In the future, it can grow into a balanced dog, if it gets a stable environment, clear boundaries and becomes part of the family's normal life. Everything that happens to it will depend on the approach and the time the new home gives it. Otis is looking for a home in an apartment or a house with complete access inside. It is suitable for people who realize that a puppy means a commitment, education and responsibility for many years.

SK·Show original

Zaujíma ho všetko okolo seba, rád objavuje nové veci a má chuť spoznávať svet. Do budúcna z neho môže vyrásť vyrovnaný psík, ak dostane stabilné prostredie, jasné hranice a bude súčasťou bežného života svojej rodiny.

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
