Otto

Mixed Breed · Male

Otto is a very handsome two and a half year old boy he’s a lovely size at approximately 32kg. His owners explain that he’s a loving, affectionate boy who loves a cuddle. He enjoys long off lead walks in the woods, beach etc followed by a sleep on the sofa. He is eager to please and motivated by food. He has completed basic gun dog training although this was mainly for general behaviour as opposed to gundog work. His owners have gone on many staycations with the dogs, which he loves. Otto can be sensitive/anxious in certain scenarios and does take his time getting to know new people, if strangers stroke him he can sometimes mouth them particularly if overstimulated or tired however, once he knows you he loves all the attention. He is well socialised with dogs known to his owners, he can sometimes be reactive towards other dogs when he’s passing them on the lead. The family have a young baby and Otto has been struggling to adjust since the baby’s arrival and has become very unhappy in the home environment. Whilst he has been great around the baby he is finding it difficult in the house and is wanting to spend the majority of the day/night outside in the garden and/or garage. When inside he would rather be upstairs and away from them which is not like him. The dynamic between him and the other dog has now changed, there has never been any aggression/fights between them but Otto has now become fearful of the spaniel in the house. The owners believe that this stress is making him more reactive towards other dogs when out and about. The family love Otto dearly but seeing the change in him is extremely difficult hence them looking to find him a more suitable new home that can help him with his confidence and allow him to thrive. Otto is neutered and vaccinated with up to date flea and worm treatments. He has been left at home with the spaniel for company for 2-3 hours after exercise. He gets on well with dogs he knows and he regularly spends time with other dogs in the family. He can be reactive with unknown dogs when on the lead, but better when off lead. Otto hasn’t met any livestock or cats that we are aware of, so his reactions are unknown. He has been great with the newborn child but hasn’t had other introductions to other children in a home environment, but he has been fine around children out on walks. Otto has a good recall to the whistle, he’s regularly walked off lead in open spaces beaches and woods etc. He’s also used to being walked with a dog walker, which he really enjoys. He’s a great traveler and will settle down alone or with the spaniel and snooze. If you feel that you could offer this sensitive boy the calm home with lots of exercise and cuddles that he loves, please contact us. Otto is currently in the Bury St Edmunds area and will be rehomed with his Agria 5 weeks free Insurance and his adoption Contract. About Otto

What life with Otto looks like

Otto is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
