Adopt Paco

German Shepherd · Male

Paco was abandoned in the mountains and found in a dramatically poor condition: emaciated, dehydrated, and full of mistrust towards humans who had repeatedly chased and mistreated him. With much patience and sensitivity, he was eventually caught and brought to safety – and it was worth it! Today, Paco is almost unrecognizable: he has gained trust, put on some weight, and is discovering the joys of dog life with growing enthusiasm. Paco is about 8-9 months old and full of energy. When playing in the garden, he leaps like a gazelle, hops like a kangaroo, and almost dances like a ballerina. Sometimes his exuberant joy outpaces his coordination, and then he lands on his rear end with the ball – a heartwarming sight! His personality is as unique as his appearance: Paco is a beautiful young male dog with a dark mask, marbled fur, and expressive eyes. He is people-oriented, loves attention, gets along well with children, and also gets along great with other dogs. He is already house-trained – consistent but loving further training will be necessary at this age, which typically yields good results. We are looking for a home for Paco in a rural area with experienced dog owners who are familiar with the characteristics and needs of herding guard dogs and can do them justice. This, combined with sufficient time, financial means, structure, and lots of love and affection for a long dog life, would be the jackpot for Paco. Upon entry, Paco is vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed. Who will show this wonderful Estrela Mountain Dog-German Shepherd mix what a loving home is and give him a warm dog bed in his own happy home after all the negative experiences?

About Paco

What life with Paco looks like

Paco is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
