OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The story of Panos Panos and his little brother Manos were found near Zakynthos by a host family of the Zakynthos Animal Welfare Fund (ZAWF) on the Greek island of Zakynthos. This man runs a small-scale shelter with a number of dogs. He took in Panos and Manos because he could not bring himself to let them roam the streets. Panos was born around April 2025 and is healthy in body and limb. As soon as a foster family or adopter has been found for him, he can travel to the Netherlands. Panos is a lovely little dog, in a nice size. He does not know life in the Netherlands yet and still has some things to learn, but we expect he is fully capable of doing so. He responded in a friendly way to our volunteer who was recently on Zakynthos. Walking on a leash still needs some practice, for example, as he is not used to it yet. We are looking for adopters for Panos who have the time and space to give him a good start in the Netherlands. Preferably living in a house with a garden in a quiet and green environment. An apartment could possibly work, if it has an elevator and is located in a quiet, green area with sufficient walking options. Fostering Panos, with the option to adopt, is also possible. About Panos

What life with Panos looks like

Panos is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Wereldhonden in Netherlands.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Panos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Panos?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Wereldhonden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Panos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Panos if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Wereldhonden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Panos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Panos isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Wereldhonden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Panos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
