Papi

Chihuahua · Male · Senior · 14 years

Chihuahua Papi – A little senior finally seeks his great happiness. This tiny male Chihuahua has probably experienced more in his life than any dog should ever have to endure. Papi was surrendered to a Spanish animal shelter—allegedly after being bitten by another dog. However, veterinary examinations revealed that, in addition to a fresh jaw fracture, an older, previously untreated fracture was also discovered. Both injuries required surgical intervention. Unfortunately, the older fracture suggests that this little senior hasn't had positive experiences with people throughout his life so far. He survived his surgery well. Although he no longer has any teeth, he can hopefully soon start a new chapter in his life free from pain. Yet, the emotional scars run deep. Out of fear, he still snaps occasionally at the moment. Now, he needs people who, with plenty of patience, understanding, and love, will show him that trust can grow. Soon, this little senior will be able to travel to Germany and recover at a loving foster home. There, a new chapter in his life will begin—hopefully the first one in which he can experience that humans can also offer love, security, and safety. We’re looking for dog-experienced people with big hearts who won’t expect anything from him but will give him all the time he needs. People who understand that an animal shelter dog carries a heavy backpack and must learn to trust step by step. Even an older dog deserves to finally feel at home and discover what a loving home feels like. With time, patience, and lots of understanding, this little guy will hopefully one day become a dog who can leave his fears behind. Who would like to give this brave senior the chance for a dignified and loving retirement? He’d be delighted to receive inquiries about his forever home from the responsible adoption coordinator.

About Papi

What life with Papi looks like

Papi is a large senior chihuahua dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Papi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Papi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Papi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Papi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Papi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Papi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Papi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
