Patentier * Luni

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

In February 2022, we received an appeal from a rabbit owner in Erlangen. A storm named Antonia had completely destroyed the rabbit hutch in the garden during the night, and the owner found his two rabbits, Melodia and Luni, sitting on the lawn. While it seemed that Melodia was doing well, the owner noticed that Luni could no longer move properly. He immediately took Luni to a veterinary practice in Erlangen. There, Luni was X-rayed, and it was discovered that her right hind leg resembled a rubble field. The veterinarian informed the owner of this diagnosis and explained that Luni needed to be operated on immediately. If the operation did not take place, Luni would have to be put to sleep. Since the owner of the two girls could not afford the operation costs, he turned to Tierhilfe Franken e.V. and described the entire situation. The president, Carmen Baur, was immediately clear that Luni, who was only one year old at the time, could not be put to sleep and so Luni and her sister Melodia were given to Tierhilfe Franken e.V. Luni thus received her life-saving operation and was treated with an external fixator. A loving foster family was found, and the foster mother took Luni and Melodia home the next day. The following days and weeks were very time-intensive for the foster family. The bandage had to be changed daily, and it had to be carefully monitored to ensure no infection occurred. Additionally, Luni had to be seen by a veterinarian every few days—now in Lauf—to observe the healing process. Of course, Luni was and is also cuddled a lot! Luni is now doing very well, and she is being spoiled with her companion at her foster family. However, she still wears the external fixator. Together with her foster daughter, the little mouse goes to X-rays every few weeks, but the veterinarian has always said, "It is still too early, the fixator must stay in place." Our little magician Luni bravely and patiently endures everything. Part of the fixator has been removed to allow better healing. Luni has now become a grandparent, for which we, as for all grandparent rabbits, ask for donations. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Patentier * Luni

What life with Patentier * Luni looks like

Patentier * Luni is a small young adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Patentier * Luni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Patentier * Luni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Patentier * Luni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Patentier * Luni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Patentier * Luni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Patentier * Luni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Patentier * Luni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
