Paul

Update 23.01.2022: Paul suffers from a mitral and tricuspid valve insufficiency with beginning enlargement of the left ventricle. Fortunately, medication is not currently required. In six months, Paul must be re-evaluated with an echocardiogram. --------------------------------------- Dear people, can life be worth living? Or is it just a temporary stay on Earth? I don't know! I am Paul, a male dog, neutered, and as old as Methuselah (13-15 years) like my buddy Merlin, who with me vegetated in inhumane and unhygienic conditions with a man, not a master, and his wife. I had a previous owner, but I can no longer remember her because I was traumatized by the catastrophic conditions with this man and his wife. Then the woman went to a retirement home, and so Merlin and I were given to the animal shelter. My health was catastrophic. I don't want to go into details, but even a hardened pathologist would have been shocked by my examination. What couldn't be seen were the unbearable pains when even a light touch on my head was made. You can ask for more details at the animal shelter, where they take care of me with great affection and provide me with excellent medical care. I know that, due to my very advanced age of 13-15 years, I don't have much time left. Dog-experienced people know what I would still like to experience in this life. Long walks (as Merlin writes, our only exercise was the garden), sniffing and marking in the wild, and and and… Dear ones, I have unfortunately lost my faith in humanity. Please let me not leave this world without having found it again. Please have a heart for an old, poor dog and take me in. I don't have much time left!. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

Euer Paul

About Paul

What life with Paul looks like

Paul is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paul, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paul?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paul on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paul if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paul already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paul isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paul and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
