Adopt Paula

Pit Bull Terrier · Female · Senior · 9 years

Paula has been with us for a long time, and we still don’t quite understand it. She’s simply nothing but sugar and very approachable around people. Sure, dogs don’t really fit into her world view, and she has a bit of a problem with movement triggers (that’s why she also has the Mauli), but she’s already quite handlable and many things that used to be a problem are no longer an issue. However, a certain amount of dog experience, a bit of steadfastness, and a slightly more attentive glance around the environment should still be brought along, because cute little bunnies, approaching dogs, and clattering bike panniers could still cause a bit of a stir now and then. The lady is now 9 years old and has become noticeably calmer. She responds well to basic commands and even her little stubbornness can be convinced by the occasional training session. She finds it really exciting to do fun things with her person. On our social walks and monthly walk meetups, she can’t be bothered to get out of her calm state anymore, because, after all, the clever mouse knows how the rabbit runs. She loves driving in the car and long walks are simply the best, especially when accompanied by the occasional cuddle session. What Paula also loves are warm sunbeams, long naps, munching treats, and she prefers the rain on the other side of the window. Additionally, occasional snoring sounds might occur… but she is house-trained and can also be left alone for a while 😊.

About Paula

What life with Paula looks like

Paula is a small senior pit bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Emden in Emden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paula, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paula?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Emden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paula on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paula if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Emden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paula already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paula isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Emden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paula and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
