Peanut

Female · Young · 1 year

- reserved, shy - a calm animal - does not like to be touched - knows other cats - needs a free roam - Peanut came to us as a precautionary measure from a security shelter. Now, the little Maunz is searching for a forever home. Peanut is a quiet and rather reserved cat who initially meets new people and situations with shyness. She prefers to observe her surroundings from a safe distance and needs a lot of time to adjust and build trust. Therefore, we are looking for a patient and understanding home where she can take her time to settle in. The pretty female cat does not like to be cuddled, but after some adjustment time, she allows closeness to her primary caregiver. Her future people should not expect a cuddly cat but accept Peanut as she is and respect her boundaries. With patience, calmness, and a safe environment, she can develop more trust over time. Peanut already knows other cats and feels comfortable in the company of fellow animals. Therefore, she would like to move into her new home with another cat (Macadamio 145_S_26, Pistazie 147_S_26, Cashew 996_F_26, Aria 152_S_26). Other cats give her security and orientation in everyday life. Peanut is house-trained and would like to have a free roam after an adequate adjustment period, as she enjoys being outdoors and exploring her surroundings. A quiet home with a safe roam would be ideal for her. For Peanut, we wish for people with a lot of understanding and patience who will give her the time she needs to build trust and settle in. This animal comes from a pairing with a breeder in a breeding mill. The breeding-induced morphological and/or physiological changes in so-called breeding lines can lead to behavioral issues and are associated with physical suffering and pain for the animals. According to § 11b Animal Protection Act, the breeding of such animals is prohibited. One characteristic of this breed is the breeding-induced strong shortening of the facial skull. This leads to a narrowing of the upper airways and tear duct, inward-rotating eyelid margins, overbite, underbite, and crooked bite, which can severely complicate eating. The wide skull makes a natural birth difficult. If the animals suffer anatomically, it is a breeding mill. As advocates for the animals, we reject this. Animal owners who support such breeding act irresponsibly. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Peanut

What life with Peanut looks like

Peanut is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peanut, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peanut?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peanut on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peanut if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peanut already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peanut isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peanut and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
