Pecas &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Our friends at Refugio Kimba received an appeal from a desperate father — his (adult and lone living son) was mistreating his dog, and he was afraid that the aggressive choleric would someday kill the four-legged creature. When the animal welfare workers then went to look for Peka, a 5-year-old (as of September 2025) Bodeguero, at the home, only the owner's girlfriend was there. The visibly worried woman told the same story of beatings and kicks … and our partners quickly got the impression that she wasn't just telling the story of poor Peka. The animal welfare workers made sure that Peka could leave the apartment when the owner wasn't home — unfortunately, they couldn't take the girlfriend with them either. We hope she also finds a way out of the hell. Peka now lives in the small family-run animal shelter Refugio Kimba, and it's clear that the owner's father and the girlfriend have taught him how to play despite all the suffering, explore the world, and trust. Peka knows that not all people are friendly, but he gives everyone a chance and is immensely happy about every new friend. Peka is an open, curious, and very friendly dog who also gets along well with the other dogs at the small facility. Frisky play, extensive cuddles, and early autumn sunbathing currently top Peka's to-do list. He also goes for walks very willingly and explores the surroundings with the volunteer helpers at the animal shelter. Peka understands that there isn't much time for that — too many poor souls are waiting for food and affection, and of course, the Refugio needs to be kept clean to avoid diseases. Peka is a great help, always ensuring that the helpers don't lose their good mood while cleaning by stealing rubber boots, playing with the hose, or hiding the scrub brush. Peka is more than ready to begin a life with a loving family. He wishes for active and affectionate people who have plenty of time for shared adventures. While dog experience isn't necessary for the friendly sunbeam, Peka needs the promise that violence and abuse will never be a topic in his life again.

About Pecas &#8211

What life with Pecas &#8211 looks like

Pecas &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pecas &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pecas &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pecas &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pecas &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pecas &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pecas &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pecas &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
