Pedro

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Pedro - clever dog with brains seeks people who give him security Hello, I am Pedro - and if I may introduce myself briefly: I am a pretty clever dog who quickly understands what you want from me. I know the basic commands, run well on a leash, drive problem-free in the car and can stay alone for a while. So I already bring a lot with me. My life was not always so straightforward. I already had a home, but was given back. There was a problem especially with encounters with other dogs on the leash: I got really upset and barked. At my current foster home I do not show this behavior. I live here quite naturally in a mixed pack of dogs and am socially compatible with my four-legged roommates. My people from the animal welfare association have therefore looked closely and found that it is less about me not liking other dogs. I tend to want to take things into my own paws when I feel I have to regulate a situation or have the "upper hand". If I have a person by my side who appears confident, gives me orientation and takes over such situations for me, I can lean back wonderfully - and let things just happen. I am actually willing to orient myself on my person. You just have to show me that I'm allowed to do that. For socialization, I know wearing a muzzle and have no problem with it. Most of the time it is not necessary within a few hours. I am generally a dog who learns quickly and understands new things pretty fast. Otherwise, I am a really good dog. When visitors come, I know: into the basket, wait - and only when I get the okay, may I say hello. I can also wait with my food and wait until my person frees it for me. And if you want to make me really happy, then organize food search games with me! My nose works very willingly. I basically find people great. However, I do not have to be touched by every stranger immediately. I would rather decide for myself when I want to make closer contact. If you give me this time, it's no problem at all. I know children from my foster home and am friendly to them. Do I need them in my new home? Hm, we would have to see. I prefer a quieter home. Cats or small animals should not live in my new home. I have a hunting instinct and would like to make this not a daily challenge. What I wish for? A quiet, rather rural home with people who know what they are doing. Therefore, I am not necessarily the right companion for dog beginners. I need people who can read dogs, assess situations and give me calmness, confidence and security. Then I am not a complicated dog - on the contrary. I am a dog with brains, a taste for movement and a desire to experience something together with my person. For sporty people I could be a really great partner. Whether extended walks, hikes or maybe even dog sports - the main thing is that we are on the road together and I can use my clever head. So if you are looking for a clever, eager to learn and sporty companion and are in the mood for a real partnership with a dog, then we should definitely get to know each other. I am waiting for people who show me: "You don't have to regulate everything yourself, Pedro. I've got it under control." Does that sound good to you? Then get in touch with my friends from the animal welfare association. Wuffy greetings, from Pedro

Was ich mir wünsche?

About Pedro

What life with Pedro looks like

Pedro is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cats & Dogs in Not in Furth.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pedro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pedro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cats & Dogs in Not handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pedro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pedro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cats & Dogs in Not will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Pedro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pedro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cats & Dogs in Not early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pedro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
