Peggy

Female · Senior · 18 years

Hello, I am Peggy, after wandering around my found location for a while and no one recognizing me there, some attentive people caught me with the help of a trap and brought me to this breed shelter. That was my great fortune, because it turned out that I was in a very bad condition. That I survived this is only due to the quick capture and the subsequent medical treatment. Completely dehydrated, emaciated, and weak, the caretakers here were very concerned about whether I would survive the next few days. After several infusions and sufficient kitten food (thank you again to all the donors!), I actually began to eat independently to everyone's joy. After a few days, I could even stand on my own power, wow, who would have thought? When I then stabilized, the vet could take blood and create a blood test. Unfortunately, the values indicated kidney and liver damage, so I am dependent on appropriate, high-quality food. To make matters worse, it was also determined that I am blind and deaf... therefore, in my new home, potential danger sources must be watched out for. Not that I fall down somewhere and break my old legs. Due to my age, I am no longer the most active. I walk around helplessly in the large cat house and only find my way around to a limited extent. But hey, I still find my food with a little help. Additionally, I am also new here and do not know myself very well yet. I show myself unobtrusively to other cats as long as they leave me alone. For my new home, I wish for a family or a Frauchen/Herrchen where it is quite quiet and I do not have to endure too much commotion anymore. Otherwise, I am happy to occasionally enjoy human affection and have my peace, because I love to be cuddled and purr like a motor. So, who would like to offer me a few more happy years in a quiet home? Come and visit me at our shelter!

About Peggy

What life with Peggy looks like

Peggy is a large senior cat waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peggy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peggy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peggy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peggy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peggy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peggy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peggy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
