Penny

Mixed Breed Β· Female Β· Young Β· 1 year

Once she gets to know you, Penny is a loveable cuddle bug and can be very playful with her toys. Penny loves spending time with her people and would prefer a family who can spend plenty of time with her throughout the day or build up her leaving hours slowly. When out and about she walks well on lead and currently prefers other calm, confident dogs. Once she has built up some courage around new dogs, she is very playful and confident with them. Meeting new people can be a bit worrying for Penny, and she prefers to approach you in her own time. What this gorgeous girl really needs is a quiet, patient home where she can grow into her true personality and get all the snuggles she deserves. Meet our sweet Penny, a 1 year old Crossbreed with the biggest heart in the world. This adorable girl is very nervous but comes around quickly if you give her space at first. Though not essential, it would be beneficial for her to live with another calm dog in the home, pending a successful meet at our centre, as this could help build her confidence with new people and in new environments. Penny is a very gentle girl, but due to being more wary, she would prefer all children in the home to be secondary school aged or over, but she could potentially have younger visiting children who know when to give her space.

About Penny

What life with Penny looks like

Penny is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Penny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Penny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Penny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Penny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Penny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Penny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Penny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
