Penny

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 3 months

At the animal shelter since: April 2026 Estimated age: born ca. March 2026 Estimated shoulder height: ca. 20 – 59 cm Learn to meet Penny directly in the video! Loving Penny has so much to give. The little Penny lived with her mother and her three siblings Leonard, Sheldon, and Howard on an open, unfenced backyard in a small village. The mother roamed the surrounding streets to find food. A family living there asked our team for help, as they themselves had no way to take in the dog family. For more information on how the dogs came to the animal shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal protection FAQ. In our partner shelter, she shows more curiosity and is slightly more reserved than her siblings. However, she still runs directly to our staff as soon as they enter the kennel, licks their hands immediately, and wants to be stroked. For Penny, we are searching for a loving home where she can arrive and enjoy the closeness to her people. We wish for this furry nose people who are aware that animal protection dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict at the animal shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That’s why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: By adopting instead of buying, you not only give a second chance to an animal but actively choose against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send our placement team a message.

About Penny

What life with Penny looks like

Penny is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Penny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Penny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Penny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Penny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Penny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Penny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Penny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
