Adopt Pepe

Rottweiler · Unknown · Senior · 10 years

Pepe is a Rottweiler who has always lived in the mountains, isolated and with very limited social interactions. He is a strong, stubborn dog with a way of communicating that needs to be understood and accepted. The breed combined with years of very limited life experience have led him to not require too intimate interactions with people. With other dogs, he is not particularly quarrelsome. He keeps his distance by going his own way. He approaches the boxes to see who is inside, so he has a sociality that however has never been expressed when it should have been, from puppyhood. He is a dog that can only go to very experienced people who are satisfied with what he can offer now that he is already an adult. He needs a garden to express his territoriality and guarding... and someone very aware who understands that his past solitude has influenced his growth. On walks, he does not pull. If interested in a Ram head, contact us 😂😘 PEPE – dog shelter in Calderara di Reno (BO) DATE OF BIRTH: 18/06/2016 SIZE: LARGE GENDER: MALE neutered male BREED: ROTTWEILER 📍 available for adoption in Bologna, province and in Emilia Romagna. Requests outside the region are also considered ONLY if willing to do a getting-to-know-you process at the dog shelter.

About Pepe

What life with Pepe looks like

Pepe is a senior rottweiler dog waiting at Fuori Le Zampe ODV in Bologna.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pepe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pepe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fuori Le Zampe ODV handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pepe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pepe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fuori Le Zampe ODV will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pepe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pepe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fuori Le Zampe ODV early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pepe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
