Adopt Pepita

Mixed Breed · Female

Pepita is an approximately 7-year-old Pekingese-Chihuahua mix female dog who recently moved into our animal shelter. This little dog impresses with her particularly soft coat and affectionate nature. Initially, Pepita is somewhat cautious towards new people and needs a little time to build trust. However, once she has formed a bond, she reveals herself as a clingy, cuddly companion who likes to be near her primary caregiver and enjoys the time spent together. Pepita loves comfortable walks at a relaxed pace. Small rounds are exactly right for her. Long, tiring trips are not her thing. Instead, she prefers to spend her time relaxed with her humans. Whether in the garden or the office, Pepita is always happy to be there. In interaction with other dogs, Pepita generally shows social and compatible behavior. It is important to give her security at the same time and to take responsibility away from her, as she likes to claim her human for herself. In a familiar environment, Pepita really enjoys lying on the lap and being thoroughly petted. Pepita is already well trained on the leash and has quickly adapted to the shelter routine. Special attention should be given to gentle medical training in the future, as she still reacts very uncertainly at the vet and during grooming, which is important for her breed. For Pepita, we are looking for a quiet, loving home with people who give her time to settle in, and who enjoy learning and enjoying the small things of everyday life together with her. Pepita has minor health issues, but they do not need treatment at the moment.

Pepita liebt gemütliche Spaziergänge in ruhigem Tempo.

About Pepita

What life with Pepita looks like

Pepita is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. in Minden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pepita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pepita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pepita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pepita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pepita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pepita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pepita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
