Peppo

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 7 years

Peppo came to the perrera, the Spanish kill shelter, a few weeks ago. He is still very fearful and does not like to be touched. He will need some time and patience in a new home. However, he gets along very well with other cats, who give him a sense of security. So, he would be a good friend for existing cats. Peppo has a scar on his left eye, probably a remnant from a herpes infection he had as a kitten. But this no longer requires treatment and does not cause Peppo any problems. Update 15.05.2021: Peppo usually flees to the higher levels of the enclosure when the animal welfare workers come. It is very difficult to get good photos of him there. But recently, he was kind enough to stay on the ground, so there are a few new pictures of him. He remains very fearful and will need a lot of time in a new home. The best thing for him would be to let him "tag along" without expecting anything from him, so he can acclimate without pressure. And surely, he will eventually realize how nice it is to finally have a family. In any case, Peppo would be a great friend for existing cats, as he is very social with them. In one of the new photos, he is seen with Frijolita, who is also looking for a home through us. Update 03.01.2025: So many years have passed, and Peppo is still waiting, as his behavior has not changed. He still feels most comfortable at high elevations, where he cannot be seen or reached. When he does come down, he flees from the volunteers. He desperately needs a home with cat-savvy people where he can slowly come out of his shell. He gets along with other cats but does not seek intense contact with them. He is more of a follower type. Who would like to win the heart of this shy cat?

DE·Show original

Video Peppo

About Peppo

What life with Peppo looks like

Peppo is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peppo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peppo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peppo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peppo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peppo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peppo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peppo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
