Pershing

Male · Senior · 9 years

Pershing had a loving home as a puppy, but due to his caregiver's serious illness, he ended up in an animal shelter. It breaks the heart to see, knowing his painful story, how the dog doesn't understand why he is in a strange place and where his beloved caregiver is. He has already gotten used to the new environment and the animal shelter, but he constantly longs for the person who will take him home forever. Every walk is a moment of respite from the shelter's noise, and the person just for him to pet and play with. He is a very intelligent dog, who reacts to every movement on the leash during walks and obediently changes direction. He also responds to commands - he knows how to sit and shake hands. Pershing already knows that a volunteer in the cage means a walk, so he gladly lets himself be put into a harness and attached to a leash. When he sees other dogs, he sometimes barks, but when his attention is skillfully diverted, he can pass them without emotion. When placed in a new situation that is not comfortable for him, he can handle his emotions on his own, rather than seeking support from a human, which is positive. He is trained for city life. Now he is looking for a patient, loving, and caring caregiver, ready to work with the dog if any inappropriate behaviors appear. Pershing participated in the Adopt a Warsaw Dog campaign in March 2026 and did brilliantly - here is the report from the volunteer: " Pershing did exceptionally well! You can tell he is a real city dog. The car ride went without problems, he slept almost the entire way. On site, he found his way beautifully. There was a trampoline, a muddy area, and a bath in a water pit. He showed off a few of his tricks - the guy has something to be proud of! He didn't want to go back to the animal shelter, my heart broke when I had to leave him in the cage. He is adorable and I hope he quickly finds a loving home." Come for a walk with Pershing. dog under the care of group G1.

Pershing w marcu 2026 roku uczestniczył w akcji Adoptuj Warszawiaka i poradził sobie świetnie – oto relacja z wycieczki Wolontariuszki: „Pershing poradził sobie rewelacyjnie! Wycieczka do miasta w ogóle go nie stresowała.

About Pershing

What life with Pershing looks like

Pershing is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Needs patient owner to work on occasional reactivity to other dogs

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pershing, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pershing?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pershing on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pershing if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pershing already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pershing isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pershing and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
