Peter

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 5 months

Peter is vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, neutered, examined by a veterinarian and has an EU passport. My name is Peter and I am a mixed breed boy born around 05/2026 and will become a medium to larger sized dog. I currently live in the Herzsprung animal shelter and hope that a nice family will soon give me a beautiful home and we will experience a lot together. Basically, I am a four-legged friend who would fit into many life situations, as my character is quite versatile. I am a cheerful and lively dog boy, but still have a balanced nature in everyday life. I am always enthusiastic about walks and like to explore my surroundings, but I never lose sight of my owner. During our excursions in nature, I am a very curious and lively companion. One of my favorite activities is cuddling, because as soon as my humans start cuddling with me, I blossom incredibly. I would not mind a few young two-legged ones in my new family, but they should already be able to deal with me responsibly. I also get along very well with my fellow species and can also live as a second dog in my new home. My new owners still need to teach me a few things for my future life, but we will surely have a lot of fun learning together. I wish for a loving home where I can accompany my humans on activities, we joyfully explore nature, cuddle together and experience many beautiful moments. I would be thrilled if a very loving and caring family would fall in love with me and give me a safe home. I would be very happy if you could meet me in person. About Peter

What life with Peter looks like

Peter is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Herzsprung.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Herzsprung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Herzsprung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Herzsprung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
