Petito

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Petito is a friendly and outgoing male who enjoys interacting with his caregivers and is eager to participate in activities. He is already well-oriented to humans, walks loosely on a leash in everyday life, and enjoys engaging in joint work and training. Petito generally settles down well at home. At the same time, he enjoys accompanying his humans and often follows them. This should continue to be trained. When encountering noises or visitors, he initially barks, but with proper guidance, he can learn to be more composed in such situations. Petito currently finds it difficult to tolerate frustration, which should be practiced further in the new home with a dog trainer. With other dogs, Petito is respectful and coexisting. He may even play with dogs he likes. On the leash, he usually approaches other dogs calmly, but in some cases, he is a bit excited. In direct contact with other dogs, he is initially somewhat uncertain, but he communicates clearly and takes well to his human's support and finds his way in the situation. A living situation with other dogs is therefore well conceivable. Petito is familiar with cats and behaves neutral to interested towards them. Hunting behavior could not be observed. Petito is house trained, drives relaxed in the car, and generally stays alone. However, he finds it easier to do so with other dogs. He is a dog who can enjoy both active days and quieter phases. He particularly enjoys concentrated joint activities with his human. He allows physical manipulation such as touching his paws or ears without any problems. We are looking for experienced dog owners who are happy to guide him and give him security. He already brings many great qualities and will become a reliable and pleasant companion with the right support. Petito can be visited and met in 48527 Nordhorn by prior arrangement. After a positive preliminary inspection and a deposit of 495 euros, Petito can be vaccinated, dewormed, chipped, neutered, and travel to his new home with his own EU passport.

DE·Show original

About Petito

What life with Petito looks like

Petito is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Petito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Petito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Petito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Petito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Petito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Petito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Petito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
