How do I contact the shelter about Pezuelo?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ALBA Protectora Madrid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pezuelo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Pezuelo if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ALBA Protectora Madrid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Pezuelo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Pezuelo isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ALBA Protectora Madrid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pezuelo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Pezuelo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Pezuelo is looking for a family. Pezuelo is 3 years old and one of the survivors of a flood. He lived cramped up with other dogs on a farm filled with iron, sheets, pallets, and trash. During a particularly strong storm, the farm was completely flooded. Two years ago, we managed to rescue him, and since then, he's lived with us. With the people he knows, Pezuelo is a heaven: affectionate, sociable, and very friendly. He's a young dog, eager to walk, sniff, and explore. On the walks we've taken with him, he's behaved very well. With other dogs, he's usually sociable, though a bit insecure in interactions, but in general, he coexists without problems. Pezuelo carries some insecurities from his past. The ideal for him would be a spacious home and a family with experience with large dogs, capable of guiding him safely. He needs people willing to introduce strangers gradually, who can make him feel secure and also be able to set clear boundaries. In particular, some male figures can generate mistrust in him, so he needs introductions at his own pace. We know that adopting large dogs is usually more complex, but they also suffer from being confined their whole lives, waiting for someone to offer them the chance to feel accompanied and loved. Help us by sharing this post so that he can reach the right person. He has already been neutered.

About Pezuelo

What life with Pezuelo looks like

Pezuelo is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ALBA Protectora Madrid in Madrid.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.
