Pferd Balou

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 7 years

On March 31, 2019, the Schwarzwälder Fuchs-Haflinger-Mix Balou moved into our area. Balou was born in 1991. For years, he was exploited as a "training horse" in a riding stable. He was kept in a much too small stall with another horse, with whom he did not get along well. There, he was bought free by people who had been taking care of horses in need for a long time. Balou became the best buddy of Muli Oskar. When the "owner" fell seriously ill, new places were sought for some horses. Balou found a new home, while Muli Oskar moved into the Tierlebenshof. When Oskar fell ill some time ago and also had to struggle with the loss of the horse Remus, our veterinarian advised quickly getting Oskar a new buddy. The horses Picasso and Lucky had become friends, and Oskar was a bit on the outside.

About Pferd Balou

What life with Pferd Balou looks like

Pferd Balou is a small adult mixed breed horse waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pferd Balou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pferd Balou?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pferd Balou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pferd Balou if I live in another country?: Sometimes. Whether a horse can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Pferd Balou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: What a horse comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. directly what is included and what Pferd Balou still needs.
What happens if Pferd Balou isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pferd Balou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
