Pferd Lucky

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 34 years

Lucky was born on May 14, 1992, in a Swiss "Zuchtbetrieb". Apparently, he was exploited as a jumping horse. Somewhere along the line, Lucky was sold to Kaiserslautern, where he survived on knee-high manure, getting only a survival ration to eat. At that time, Lucky weighed 150 kg less than he does today. Since the "owner" had high stable debts, Lucky was to be sold to cover these costs. It’s not hard to imagine that an emaciated, unrideable horse would be sold to a horse dealer. Fortunately, Lucky was discovered by people who bought him and saved him from becoming a slaughter horse. Lucky was finally able to live a beautiful horse life. The people who had Lucky at that time had to reduce their horse stock for health reasons, and so Lucky came to the Tierlebenshof. Lucky is a very special being. He is enormous, and his size can be intimidating. As big as he is, he is very gentle and loving. He is very cuddly and loves to be scratched. He has arthritis in his hips, and especially in the winter, he enjoys massages to relieve the tension and his pain. If he could, he would like to sit on everyone’s lap. Lucky simply wants to feel closeness and be loved. Lucky has even managed to "wrap Picasso, the loner, around his finger." For years, Picasso had no great interest in the other horses until Lucky came. ": " ": "ImageGallery", "id" : " "url" : ""

DE·Show original

About Pferd Lucky

What life with Pferd Lucky looks like

Pferd Lucky is a large senior mixed breed horse waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pferd Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pferd Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pferd Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pferd Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pferd Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pferd Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pferd Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
