Pflegehund Ashka

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Ashka, a female Herdenschutzhund mix, was born around September 2020 and is estimated to be between 70-79 cm tall and weighs approximately 30-34 kg. She has been in Germany since June 2026 and is currently on foster care in Frankfurt (60598). Ashka longs for security in her new home. Ashka's life was not easy from the start. When we discovered her at a Romanian animal shelter, she was lying exhausted between dirt and concrete. She barely had the strength to stand up and would fall asleep due to exhaustion. This is an image that will stay with us for a long time. We explain how dogs end up in these situations and more in our FAQ section on animal welfare. Ashka was lucky enough to travel from the Romanian shelter to a German foster home. This has many advantages: here, she can get used to life in a household and her character can be better assessed. In addition, foster homes allow potential adopters to visit and get to know the dogs before making an adoption decision. Ashka is now settling into her foster care. As soon as we have more information about her character, we will update this description. If you are already in love with her, please send us a self-disclosure using the button below. In the shelter, Ashka showed herself to be a calm, composed and unobtrusive dog. She greeted people and other dogs friendly and confidently and took new impressions at her own pace. Instead of playing, she explored her surroundings with her nose and observed attentively what was happening around her. We suspect that there is a Herdenschutzhund (HSH) in Ashka. Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting an HSH. HSH mixes are often very independent and need confident leadership. We are looking for people who are aware of the fact that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany at the shelter. That's why we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance and benevolence. But one thing is certain: those who adopt instead of buying not only give an animal a second chance, but also actively decide against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us your self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking about adoption, first read through the adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than one year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send a message to our adoption team.

About Pflegehund Ashka

What life with Pflegehund Ashka looks like

Pflegehund Ashka is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pflegehund Ashka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pflegehund Ashka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pflegehund Ashka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pflegehund Ashka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pflegehund Ashka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pflegehund Ashka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pflegehund Ashka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
