Adopt Piccolina

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Piccolina, a small personality, is looking for her people. Piccolina originally came from Romania and is believed to have lived on the streets there for a long time. Our vet found her injured in the field and took her in, nursing her back to health. Currently, Piccolina lives in Germany on a foster home and has quickly and well settled in. She knows the routines here, knows how to behave in the house and on walks. She really enjoys the perks of a German household. Soft beds, always yummy food, and many hands that can stroke her diligently. At 10 years old, she has earned the right to live a wonderful "retirement life." Piccolina loves to be in the garden or on the balcony. This is very clear, as she has clearly lived outside for a long time and feels comfortable there. Therefore, we would like her to have a balcony or garden in her new home. Piccolina is initially a bit reserved with strangers, but she can be convinced very quickly with treats. Once she warms up, she is a very cheerful little lady who knows who she is. Who would have thought, she had to make many of her own decisions and take care of herself for many years. Despite this, she is happy to join her people and always wants to be there. Being alone is sometimes difficult for her. Therefore, it would be nice if someone could spend a lot of time with her. On the foster home, Piccolina lives harmoniously with a female dog and two male dogs. She would like to be the one in charge. She can be quite grumpy with female dogs, but gets along better with male dogs. We can also imagine a place where she can be the sole princess. Due to an old fracture in her hind leg, Piccolina walks on three legs when she runs faster. She walks on four legs in a slow pace. Piccolina doesn't mind this at all, as she has known it for a long time. She can easily manage walks up to an hour.

About Piccolina

What life with Piccolina looks like

Piccolina is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Markdorf in Markdorf.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piccolina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piccolina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Markdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piccolina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piccolina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Markdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piccolina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piccolina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Markdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piccolina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
