Adopt Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe)

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 15 years

Pico is about 15 years old and a domestic shorthair cat, but we also had him a few times in our community garden, and he loved it. He is very friendly and curious by nature. Guests are always greeted by him, and he gets a small cuddle session. However, he is cuddly only in phases, mostly in the evenings. When he is done, he breaks the cuddle session on his own and retreats to his cardboard box. In the past, he enjoyed playing and tobing (including playful fights), but he no longer does this as often due to his age. Sometimes he can still be coaxed out of his reserve. Pico is a patient, pleasant tomcat who doesn't have many demands. Currently, he receives insulin from us, in consultation with the vet. There is special diabetic cat food available that can be purchased at Fressnapf or other pet food stores. In between, Pico also gets "normal" cat food. We have insulin and syringes in stock and can provide them. To monitor his blood sugar level and adjust the insulin dose accordingly, we use a measuring device (Vetmate Plus) in combination with test strips and safety lancets. We also have the measuring device, test strips, and lancets and can provide them.

About Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe)

What life with Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) looks like

Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pico (externe Vermittlungshilfe) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
