Pieter

European Shorthair · Male · Kitten · 4 months

Pieter is an energetic and adventurous kitten who lives life with enthusiasm. His curiosity leads him to investigate everything that catches his attention. Climbing, scrambling, playing, and exploring are among his favorite activities. He enjoys entertaining himself for hours with balls, feathers, and other challenging toys. Pieter is also very affectionate and people-oriented. He enjoys interacting with his humans and loves being involved in everything that happens at home. When you give him attention, he clearly enjoys it. However, playing is often his top priority. After a short cuddle moment, he is likely to be off on his next adventure. Pieter is deaf. This does not stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. Because he cannot perceive sounds that indicate danger, he cannot safely roam outdoors. Therefore, we are looking for a spacious, safe, and challenging home where he can expend his energy. Think of high scratching posts, wall shelves, rope ladders, and plenty of play opportunities. A fenced garden or secure cat run is important, so he can also safely enjoy the outdoors. For this cheerful and adventurous kitten, we are looking for a lively household with a young, social, and active companion to play and romp with. Pieter can be well placed with children from 12 years old. His new home must provide enough space and opportunities to climb, play, and explore, and have a fenced garden or cat run.

Pieter is doof. Ga terug

About Pieter

What life with Pieter looks like

Pieter is a large puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Dierentehuis Arnhem in Netherlands.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pieter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pieter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Arnhem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pieter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pieter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Arnhem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pieter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pieter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Arnhem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pieter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
