Adopt Piper

Boston Terrier · Female · Senior · 9 years

Piper is looking for a relaxed and quiet home with loving and active adopters who can take her on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help her settle in and give her all the love and attention she deserves. She is a friendly bean who could live with calm secondary school children who will play with her nicely and will give her space to rest when needed. Piper could live with another confident dog who will happily co-exist and engage in occasional play, this will be pending successful meets at the centre; although living with another dog is not a necessity, she would be happy with polite and friendly walking buddies. Piper has little training under her belt, she could be enticed to engage in training in short, sweet sessions as long as a tasty treat is on offer. She would like a home with a private or communal, secure garden for her to potter about in at her leisure. Piper can settle nicely in the home although she does like to be a shadow so would prefer her favourite people home whenever possible, she could be left for up to 4 hours, leaving time would need to be built up slowly once she has had time to settle into her new home. Piper is on a special diet for her skin and takes daily medication, she will need to meet her adopters a few times prior to going home so please bear this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet her within 48hrs of being shortlisted. Sweet and affectionate Piper is a 9 year old Boston Terrier with so much love to give! She loves to greet everyone she meets with fusses and kisses, like toll booth, you must pay with affection to cross her path! Playtime is so much fun with Piper, especially if you get out her favourite squeaky rugby ball for a game of fetch, she likes to play find it in the bushes when the ball disappears too. This little shadow likes to know what you are up to, she will happily follow you around all up in your business and when you sit down she will climb up beside you or in your lap for a snuggle and a nap. This loveable pooch is ready to find her new home.

About Piper

What life with Piper looks like

Piper is a senior boston terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
