Adopt Pirata

Mixed Breed · Female

Pirata spent most of her seven years of life kept on a chain, until her owner died and she was rescued. Generally speaking, dogs that are chained don’t get trained – so it’s hardly surprising that Pirata understood very little about listening to and following instructions when she first came to ADP. we’ve seen a wonderful breakthrough. Pirata has learnt to sit on command and is extremely proud of her newly aquired skill! There are, of course, many other reasons to love Pirata. She is a cheerful and affectionate dog, not shy at all, and gets on well with humans and other dogs. After years of neglect, she loves life in the shelter, where she gets the two things she has lacked for most of her life: freedom to explore and good company. But we think it’s time that Pirata graduated to the next stage – a home of her own. Pirata is sterilised and is fully up-to-date on vaccines and parasite treatments.

About Pirata

What life with Pirata looks like

Pirata is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Adoption Dogs Portugal in Portugal.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pirata, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pirata?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Adoption Dogs Portugal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pirata on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pirata if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Adoption Dogs Portugal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pirata already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pirata isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Adoption Dogs Portugal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pirata and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
