Polly & Sabine

European Shorthair · Female · Young · 1 year

Polly and Sabine are looking for a new can opener together. Polly, our three-legged whirlwind, is searching for a new home with her new friend Sabine, who came from an animal hoarding household. Polly is 1.5 years old and has been in our wonderful foster home in 40223 Düsseldorf for some time. She is very uncomplicated, curious, and open. She talks a lot with her foster family and often invites them to play. Due to her missing leg, she cannot jump on tables or the like, but climbing aids, rummaging around, and zooming through the house do not cause her any problems. If you didn’t know, you would often not notice that she is missing a leg. For example, she hangs herself up on the heater and pulls herself up to the windowsill. She is looking for contact with "her people" and waits already meowing at the door when the foster parents come home. Her friend Sabine was born around March 2025 and was rescued together with many other cats from an animal hoarding case. She was able to recover from her hardships on the foster home and finally enjoys the attention she needs. Polly has become her perfect companion, with whom she would like to go out together. She is typically playful, cuddly, and very clingy for her age.‼️Important: despite her missing leg, Polly needs a secure outdoor area. She clearly shows that she also wants to explore the world beyond the front door and is unimaginably mobile. Both cats are neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated and will only be released after you contact us by phone at: our area Mo-Fr from 10-18h or by email: Polly & Sabine@this breed.our shelter.our area

About Polly & Sabine

What life with Polly & Sabine looks like

Polly & Sabine is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Wuppertal in Wuppertal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Polly & Sabine, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Polly & Sabine?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wuppertal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Polly & Sabine on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Polly & Sabine if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wuppertal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Polly & Sabine already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Polly & Sabine isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wuppertal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Polly & Sabine and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
