Poppet

Female · Adult · 6 years

08-06-26 Poppet is a wonderful girl who originally came to us from a breeder and was lucky enough to spend around a year in a loving home. Sadly, she has been returned to our care due to a relationship breakdown and ill health within the family, through absolutely no fault of her own. Sadly, Poppet has very limited vision due to cataracts. However, she doesn't let this hold her back and navigates her surroundings well. In her previous home, she was assessed by a specialist who recommended monitoring her condition for the time being, but advised that she may be a suitable candidate for cataract surgery in the future. Poppet was very much loved and well cared for in her previous home, and her gentle nature shines through. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but as she begins to feel comfortable, her friendly and affectionate personality soon emerges. She simply needs a little time and patience to build confidence and form new bonds. We are told that Poppet can suffer with some separation anxiety, so she will be looking for a home with adopters who are around most of the time and have lots of time to spend with her. Her adopters will need to work on her separation anxiety with her, building up the time that she is left. Poppet will need a kind and confident resident dog in her new home that she can look to for reassurance as she settles back into family life. Having a canine companion will help her feel secure and supported as she adjusts to her new surroundings. We would also consider homing her with dog savvy, gentle teenagers. As Poppet has previously lived in a home, she is likely to already know many of the basics, although she may need a few gentle reminders as she settles into a new routine. Poppet can already walk on a lead, so she would enjoy one or two walks around the local area when she is settled in. Poppet is more than ready to find her forever home again and become a cherished member of the family. She is a sweet, deserving girl who has already shown that she can thrive in a home environment and is simply looking for a second chance at the happy future she deserves. With love, patience, and the companionship of another dog, Poppet will make a wonderful and loyal companion for a very lucky family. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Poppet

What life with Poppet looks like

Poppet is a adult dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppet, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppet?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppet on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppet if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppet already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppet isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppet and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
