Charlie

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 1 year

At just 1 years old, this handsome boy has already been on a long journey. Over the past 9 months he has been working through his rehabilitation training, learning how to feel safe and confident in the world around him. Kennel life proved too stressful for him, but for the last 5 months he has been thriving in a foster home, where he’s finally be able to relax and his true personality start to shine. With people he trusts he is incredibly affectionate, playful and full of love. Like any Labrador, food is the way to his heart and he enjoys his positively reinforced training and he will often greet you with a big waggy body and his favourite dinosaur to mouth. He is now looking for a “foster in view to adopt” home that can continue supporting him on this journey. He will need patient and knowledgeable owners committed to his ongoing training, particularly when in new environments and car travel. His new family will also need to have at least one person at home at all times to begin with, so he can gradually learn that being alone for short periods is ok. A home within 1.5hrs of the centre would be most ideal, due to how worried he is of car travel and so the RSPCA team can continue to support him once in the home too. Charlie may be able to live with another suitably matched dog, as long as they are neutered, fully vaccinated, calm and confident and is right for both dogs. He is such a sweet dog and deserves to find someone who can walk the rest of his journey with him. Could this be you?

About Charlie

What life with Charlie looks like

Charlie is a medium-sized young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charlie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charlie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charlie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charlie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charlie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charlie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charlie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
